We had an amazing women's bible study group last night. It went for 2 1/2 hours and could easily have gone a lot longer :) ... It was past 9:30 by the time I got home but it was a night full of being refreshed, renewed, encouraged, and strengthened.

One of the ladies last night said a quote that has been around for a very long time, but I wrote it down in hopes to look at it every morning in hopes that it will give me strength for the day to be the woman God desires me to be. Instead of looking at a plain piece of paper, I took out my digital scrapbooking supplies and created this little beauty:

For Our Sweet Denisha

This post is dedicated to our niece Denisha. She is an amazing and talented young lady. We received a call yesterday and was informed that Denisha is in the hospital again for complications that no one can figure out. It has been weighing heavy on my heart to continually pray for this little girl of ours and I have been reaching out to family, friends, acquaintances, church members, and anyone else who I can get a hold of to pray for her. So here I am asking you. You who reads this blog-to pray for our little girl. The power of prayer is evident and is amazing and wondrous and powerful. The more people come together to pray for a single thing. The boldness, and loudness of the prayer will be heard by God.

I have been in constant prayer since we have found out about Denisha. I wanted to research even more prayers from scripture for her. To give her strength. For us. For the doctors. I wanted to share these verses that I found so that you may have another source of Gods word about sick children and strength.

These are some of the prayers that I have been constantly praying:

**Heavenly Father, watch with us over your child Denisha, and grant that she may be restored to that perfect health which it is yours alone to give. Relieve her pain, guard her from all danger, restore to her your gifts of gladness and strength, and raise her up to a life of service to you.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

**May God the Father bless you, God the Son heal you, God the Holy Spirit give you strength. May God the holy and undivided Trinity guard your body. Amen

When you find yourself in constant prayer, it's sometimes hard to find the right words that you are trying to say. Don't worry. God knows the words in your heart. But, I did find these scripture of strength to help and I thought they would be good to share:

Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Matthew 17:20 He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Isaiah 40:28-31 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary,and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Sweet Denisha,

We are here for you sweetheart. We have every bit of faith that God will heal you. You are such a strong woman and we are so proud of everything you have accomplished. Please read these scriptures if you are in need of strength. Please know you are always in our thoughts and prayers. We love you to the moon and back and back again!

Saturday Lunch

This Saturday we created a different lunch for Bria. It was actually quite good. So good in fact that Mom had some for lunch too!

I grabbed the camera because I feel that I have neglected to take pictures the past few months. But I did manage to grab some precious ones, and I'm oh so glad I did! When Bria see's the camera, she likes to pose.

Carrot, Apple & Raisin Delight

1/2 apple peeled, cored, and chopped
1 cup sliced carrots
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup water
1 Tbs. olive oil

Saute carrots and oil in a sauce pan for five minutes. Add the apple chunks, raisins, and water. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 10 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes and let the little one - or you- enjoy!

Aren't these the most amazing eyes you have ever seen!?

She started being goofy. She's such a character and loves to make people laugh!

It was time to stop. She wanted more and Mommy had to put down the camera!

When at the babysitters...

I love the fact that our babysitter sends emails us little updates about how Bria is doing that day. Sometimes she even sends us pictures. It helps Mama and Daddy to see the little one doing cute things and hearing about how she ate or slept. It feels like I was there, kind of. Mary (Bria's babysitter) sent this picture and I just had to post it.

It must be a right of passage into toddler hood that is universal...

What Do you Do in -40 degree Weather?

Since we came back from Christmas vacation, the weather has been ridiculously cold. I don't even know if I can describe it as just cold because it has been colder than that, if you could imagine! With the temperatures ranging from -40 to -20 (being the warmest) plus windchill, it has been so uncomfortable! It has been too cold for any of the snow machines to start, so we have been walking Bria to her babysitters everyday, which is rough and makes our morning even shorter than it already it, but at least she is comfy cozy underneath her 3 layers, 2 hats, 2 pairs of gloves, nice warm booties, plus a face mask and 2 blankets over her in her chariot stroller!

With it being chilly out we are getting a lot done around the house and with my craftiness! I have managed to keep the house clean, laundry done, beds made, floors swept and vacuumed. I even have time to play with B :) ... On top of that I have made 2 more crochet hats! I have to admit, I love crocheting a lot better than knitting for several reasons. 1) It's quicker, which means instant gratification! 2)It's easier on my hands because I'm working only 1 crochet hook instead of 2 knitting needles. 3)easier to follow crocheting patterns than knitting patterns!

This is going to be a long post...Again...Because I have another creation:

Amish White Bread

This is my go-to bread recipe from now on! I made two loaves on Saturday. It's now Monday night and we have 1/2 a loaf left!! Clint said that I need to make this every 3 days, and you know what? I think he's right!

Amish White Bread
adapted from allrecipes.com

2 cups warm water (110 degrees F)
1/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 Tbs. active dry yeast
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
5 cups bread flour**

1) In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in yeast. Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam.
2) Mix salt and oil into the yeast mixture. Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat. Cover with a damp cloth (or plastic wrap) and allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
3)Punch down dough. Knead for a minute. Divide in half. Shape into loaves and place into two, well oiled 9X5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above pan.
4) Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes
5) Once bread is done, cool in pan and then immediately turn bread upside down (it will be a little moist from the oil) to let dry.
6) ENJOY!

Luckily, the weather shows that it's warming up this week! It will be around -5 - 0 degrees!! The statement of the day is, "Man, it feels like a tropical heat wave!" ...Awwww... Life in rural Alaska!

One Post....Catch All...

This has to be the longest time a blogger, or anyone has gone without posting their daughters first Christmas! Ugh. I tell you. Life gets away from me more often than not lately. With having a toddler, being pregnant, traveling, teaching. It gets difficult to keep up with this stuff. But, I am ready. Ready to tell a story through dozens and dozens of pictures. They are priceless.

It's always a bitter sweet time when it's back to reality. I truly love every single second I am back at home. Surrounded by my my family. Surrounded by the sweet memories of Ketchikan.

We had the most amazing Christmas Break. Ever. Holiday's are sweetened by the presence of our daughter. Everything seems just a little bit more fun and enjoyable.

We left White Mountain on the 17 of December and because we got stuck in Ketchikan due to high winds we came back on the 4th of January. A good long break from reality. A good long break from blogging. A good long break from facebook or any social networking site. I loved every second spending all my energy with my family.

Here are the photos to tell our story of Christmas break, because well, I know everyone loves pictures more than words....

12 MONTHS!

Our dear Bria Eden is 1 year old today. It seems like just yesterday that I wrote this about our baby girl's birth. It's amazing how fast time goes by. I can honestly say that this has been the single best year of my life. She has grown into such a beautiful creature and I am excited to venture off into this new year with her.

We are having a celebration on Friday with the Hansen family. It will consist of Bria's favorite food: Spaghetti, and cupcakes. Simple. Delicious. And all for Bria.

I wanted to do something special, so I created this banner in her honor. It is her monthly pictures (up to 11 months).

And in the essence of living in rural Alaska, I quickly printed out some other decorations for the food: These awesome Woodland creature printables. I found them Here. You can find the Woodland collection or others. I pinned the site for future holidays.

Here's our big girl opening her presents:

Bria Loves:
fake sneezing, waving and saying "hi" to everyone, giving Mommy and Daddy kisses, hug and pat her baby, dancing-even when there is no music, carrying her clothes all around the house.

Bria Doesn't Love:

when she signs more and we don't see it at first, Sierra barking at the door right next to her, losing her binkie at night.

And her dessert for the evening: Pumpkin cakes (similar to pumpkin bread, just baked in cupcake pan). Bria actually preferred these over the cupcakes! This makes for a happy mommy that our daughter is on the "healthy" path. I just hope it lasts!

A Letter to the Birthday Girl...

Dear Peanut,

Well my sweet Bria, today marks your first Birthday. You have brightened my world now for 365 days and each day gets brighter and sweeter, more than I could have ever dreamed of.

I now understand when Mama's everywhere say, "It feels like just yesterday that you were born- where did the time go?" because sweet B, that's exactly how I feel. It was on this day a year past, in the middle of winter, and the quickness of a mere few hours that we welcomed you into this world- and it was the start of everything. Every year on this day for the rest of my life, I will relive the power and emotion of that experience.

My sweet-pea, I move and act and think differently since you were first laid in my arms. You have given me more purpose behind my reasons more motivation behind my actions. Thank you sweet baby girl for giving me more life.

I have loved watching you grow and achieve milestones. You are already so full of creativity and energy. You are always making people laugh with your goofy nature. You love to entertain and be the center of attention.

You are the center of our world. Bria, you are a wonderful joy to your father and I as a daughter and I know you will be an amazing role model and big sister to your younger sibling.

I can't wait for this gift of next year with you. And the one after that. And the one after that. And a lifetime of watching you become. Bria Eden, this whole world is yours for the taking and I have no doubt that's exactly what you'll do.

Bria has something to tell you....

I can't wait anymore!!

That's right! We are expecting. Again.

It was a total surprise.

Even when I was nauseated for 23 out of 24 hours, crying because all I want is a sandwich from Subway (we don't have Subway here), thinking of certain foods made my stomach twirl like a tornado, and the simple fact that all I wanted to do was sleep all day long, the thought of exercising was out the window, and I could feel my pants getting a little tighter to quickly...

I still thought I was coming down with a cold.

When the "flu" symptoms didn't subside after two weeks I had a little bit of an idea that it could be a tiny, itty, bitty, possibility that I could be pregnant.

But we weren't trying. So how could I?

Well.... on Thursday night 2 weeks ago I had a dream I took a pregnancy test and there were two pink lines.

The next morning I called the clinic to make an appointment, and as soon as my lunch break started, I went down to pee in the cup.

After waiting 10 minutes (being naive, mind you) the health aide came to get me.

She pointed with her eyes towards those two pink lines.

God truly had other plans for us...

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

-Jeremiah 29:11

Even though we weren't planning on having another child so soon ( I regrettably didn't loose all the baby weight with Bria :S ) I couldn't be happier that our LORD decided it was time for us to create another miracle for our family. for the world.

It has been a rough, tough ride with morning sickness (sorry if it's TMI), but I know that the outcome of this will be a magical, magnificent, and a miracle of a baby.

Folks, Life As We Know It has changed once again for us. It's exciting. It's scary. It's wonderful. It's amazing.

It's a blessing!

Clint's Birthday!!

Clint always teases everyone about how December is his Birthday MONTH. I get a little nervous because I have never done anything to celebrate his birthday month. Or even week. So, this year I decided to do something different.

Way back in September I started thinking about Clint's Birthday and how to make it a memorable one for him. I was pinterest-ing and I came across these lovely ladies and their idea for a husband appreciation week. I thought I would tweak it for Clint's Birthday.

I wanted to go a step further and create an entire banner count down for Clint:

For each number on the banner, I contact family and friends of Clint to write him a birthday letter. I had more letters than I had days, so some days he got two letters! My husband is an amazing man, and touches so many lives that I thought it would be awesome if he heard it from them:

Along with all the letters, he received a gift on random days (a total of 5 small gifts and 2 big gifts)

This was one of the small, handmade gifts, Subway art:

I also ordered him a Tiramisu cake from Sharis, Berries!

It came 6 days late (I ordered it so it would be here on the 6th, but we've had so many snow storms that it delayed the planes, and the mail)....But, to our surprise and our enjoyment, the cake made it on his birthday! To say I was happy would be an understatement. It looked beautiful and tasted amazing. So, if you are ever skeptical on ordering food over the internet, Shari's Berries will not disappoint you!

Clint's "12 Days of Clint" was so much fun to put together and he said that it was one of the best things that he has received for a birthday gift. He was so happy to hear from his family and friends and how they feel and think about him... We've kept all the letters! Thank you so much for those of you who participated and wrote Clint a letter for his special day!

Snowy Day....

Over the last 2 weeks I think we have accumulated about 3-5 feet of snow! It has been so stormy here with blizzard and winds. It has not been a very nice winter. However, this week the temperature has gotten a little warmer. Warm enough for it to snow, but it's still cold enough to not want to be outside for long periods of time. Poor. We love outside. We are upset that this year hasn't brought us a lot of outdoor adventures.

In my attempt to play outside, Bria and I went on the deck and played in the snow before I attempted to shovel. She loved it at first and then hated it, I think her butt was getting wet through the snow suit because it's wet icky snow, not the powder stuff we are used too.

At first I don't know if she wanted to laugh or cry:

"Uh, mom? What am I supposed to do now?!" :

"I'm scared to move, Mom! Please help!" :

"Okay, I can get used to this...I think" :

"What is that?! It feels cold..." :

On another note: I apologize for not updating the blog on a regular basis. I know a lot of you look on here everyday and are disappointed to not see new pictures of Bria or see what is happening up here in White Mountain. There are some changes that are currently going on, and I have not been in a position to even want to be on the computer, or updating our pictures (by the way, I have hundreds of pictures that I have taken, and not shared... I will soon....I promise). So for now, until I get out of my funkiness, please know that we are here, and are doing well. In the meantime, I pray that your homes are filled with hugs, love, and laughter!

Christmas Time!!

I love Christmas time. I love all the sweet lights and decorations. I love the Christmas music. I love the feel of snow (when we can actually play outside. I'm talking about in Ketchikan, not up here where it has been -40 the past month..no joke). I love the smells of baked goods, and scrumptious foods, and even better eating all the goodies! I love the fact that I get to spend 2 whole weeks with my family. I love the fact that Clint and I don't have to work and we can spend all day every day with our amazing daughter! I love the fact that this year we are having our very first Christmas tree up in our own house! eeek....

I'm very happy and blessed for the life our Lord has given us. But in 10 more sleeps, it's going to be even greater!

These are just some things around the web that I have been falling in love with this Holiday season. I can't wait to recreate some of this either this Christmas, or next.

11 MONTHS!

So it's that time of the month again to announce that our sweet daughter is 11 months old.... *gasp* I can't believe I have been a mother for 11 months. It is so ridiculously crazy that our baby girl will be 1 year old in thirty days. Thirty.

Bria loves:

jumping on the bed, waving good bye, carrying her clothes around the house, pushing the buttons on the telepohne/remotes.

Bria doesn't love:

when she doesn't get what she wants right away (aka phone or remotes), when mom leaves the bedroom when it's time to go to bed.

10 months and 12 days: ate gold fish

10 months 17 days: first time having pumpkin bread

10 months 19 days: first Thanksgiving

Tough-man Contest

Are you tough enough?

This was the question we asked everyone as we started the Tough-man Contest. Clint and the ABKA put together this contest as a fun, healthy activity to do during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Clint compiled a list of events (see below) and had different age groups compete against each other. We had everyone from 3 year olds to 50 year olds competing! It was too fun, and I'm so thankful that we had a good turn out. We had about 20-30 contestants and about 60 people overall attend the event.

One of our ABKA members graciously asked CAMP and NSEDC for donations to give as prizes for the contestants. Our expectations were passed as we had tons to give away! The winners of the contests were able to pick either water bottles, sweatshirts, Brooks running bags, walking pedometers, and New Testament Bibles!!

Unfortunately my camera ran out of memory. Yup. I need to take note that we need more memory cards...There was also another event that I wasn't able to get pictures of, which was the seal hop. If you don't know what the seal hop is, it's an event that they used to do in the older days. It's where you get down in a push-up position, and with one single motion, you hop up on your arms and legs. You continue the motion the full length of the gym. It's hard, but so funny to watch!

We had a successful Saturday, and I think everyone had a great time and went home with at least one prize. Some went home with more than one! We had snacks and refreshments after all the participants hard work! This will be a fun annual ABKA event that Clint and I think will be fun for the community.

Giving Thanks

Every day and night I start my prayers, "Dear Heavenly Father, I want to thank you for all the blessings you have given me."

He has given me a lot of blessings. I am always so thankful for what I have. I have a beautiful, wonderful, amazing life and I couldn't imagine it being any other way.

Sometimes though, during my prayers I never really get into much detail on what I'm thankful for besides my family, our health, and happiness.

Today is a great day to go into intricate detail on what we are thankful for. It is Thanksgiving after all.

I'm thankful for...

My relationship with Jesus Christ
My husband
My daughter
My family
My dog
My friends
My health
My home
My job
My ability to see, hear, taste, and breathe

We had dinner at our friends house. I love them. They are like family up here, which it was nice to have since we are so far away from our family.

Holiday's don't seem the same without them. But I'm glad we have such good friends to share these special moments with.

After our feast we played Apples to Apples: Bible Edition (I think this version is so much better than the other ones. You also get a verse on each card explaining where the word came from)

I didn't dominate any of the rounds :( ...

There's always next time though!

I apologize to those who have emailed, called, left messages, and have been wondering where I have been with updating this blog.

I am sorry.

I have been having a wonderful time not worrying about taking pictures of Bria and not worrying about posting pictures. I have been refreshed and renewed for the blog and to give you more pictures of our precious Miss B.

Here are a few pictures since I last posted.

She is a big girl who loves her little puppy from Nana, and she loves walking around the house drinking her sippy cup!

For all of you anxiously awaiting pictures of her, I hope this will suffice until the Holiday weekend is over.

I wish we could be with each and every family member and friends during Thanksgiving. Please know that we are thinking of you and love you all very much!

Bria Vs. Vanilla Wafers

Bria recently discovered Vanilla Wafers. The first time she saw the box, she sat quietly and diligently while trying to get into the box for about 15 minutes. She finally did. My girl. She's just like her Daddy: persistent, and smart!

She sure is adventurous with food! I hope that never changes :)

Pasghetti Adventures!

Over the weekend, Bria had her first taste of Spaghetti and she absolutely loved every second of it. She ate it all by herself the entire time! It was hilarious to sit back and watch her try and get the noodles in her mouth. She figured out how to slurp the noodle into her mouth and continued to eat that way the rest of the time!

10 MONTHS!

Goodness gracious! Our little Peanut is 10 months old today... Sigh... I have such mixed feelings at this age. On one side, I am having so much fun watching her grow and explore new things each and every day, and on the other side, I am torn and saddened. I am sad because she is never going to ever be this small again. I am torn because she is growing more independent. I know it's not like she's a teenager, but in two months she will be one. I hope everyone is have a great Friday!

The past 2 days I was able to stay home with Miss. B! It was so incredible and so much fun!! We did all sorts of things. We read, played, took baths, laughed, napped, cried, yelled, and loved on each other! I'm telling you. I could get used to staying home and watching Bria every second! She's an amazing little girl, and I'm not just saying this because she's my daughter (okay, maybe I'm saying it because she is our daughter!)

While I download and edit all the pictures of the past two days, I wanted to share a video with you. I couldn't wait too long before I put it up. It's too precious to keep to myself!

Folks, she's almost there. She's almost to the point where she just wants to walk-by herself-everywhere! I am so so so excited for this milestone in her life.

Project 31: A Proverbs 31 Woman

Some of you may not know, but I am part of a woman's bible study here in White Mountain and we come together every Tuesday for fellowship, snacks, and the most important thing: to talk about God and what is in our hearts. Last week our discussion was lead towards becoming a virtuous and Godly woman.

The first time I read Proverbs 31 I was totally discouraged. I mean, I just read about the ideal, beautiful, perfect...Superwoman. A woman who gets up before her household to make breakfast. A woman who makes the clothing her children wear, a woman who goes to the fields and gathers food. A woman who sells merchandise at the market. She has all the qualities and characteristics of a virtuous wife/mother/woman.. She is a Godly woman.

I admit. I have been a victim of the media and how they portray women on how we should look, act, and what we should buy. I have fallen to the idea and belief that a woman is virtuous by her looks and appearance. This is not true. The pure beauty of a woman is what is inside of her heart and soul. A Godly woman is by, definition to be "God-like". As women, we need to strive to possess God-like characteristics. For ourselves. For our husbands, For our children. For God! A women who has a beautiful soul is beautiful.

The is my challenge to myself and to others who want to join me: I want to become the woman that God has asked us to strive for. A woman that, of course by no means has all of these characteristics, but a woman who wakes up every day and attempts to be a more virtuous woman that day. Just today.

Powerful stuff huh? I have read it probably over a dozen times and it never seizes to amaze me at how virtuous this woman is. She has it all together. What a powerful message to give us "other" women huh? hehe.

Here are the questions I have made for my challenge everyday. Please feel free to use them, or make up your own, or do both!

I'm not going to answer the questions on the blog because this is a personal journey. A journey between me and God. I will be keeping my answers in a journal. However, I will be posting the question to remind you of what to write about or think about.

I hope this is a self-discovering journey for all of us and I pray that it will deepen our understanding of the woman God wants us to be.

Day 1: What have been your thoughts and feelings when reading Proverbs 31?

Day 2: Is there a woman you know who has set an example to you of being a godly woman?
Day 3: What does beauty mean to you?
Day 4: Jaded Beauty. Has the world's definition of beauty ever jaded you?

Day 12: What kind of impression are you giving of your husband?
Day 13: What kind of reputation are you giving to the Lord?
Day 14: Describe a recent day when you were "fed" up with others. What led you to that point?
Day 15: What is something good you have done in the past?
Day 16:What is something good that you one day dream of doing?
Day 17: What are some needs that need to be met in your community? Write about how you can extend your hand to those who need you.
Day 18: Write about your job. What do you like about it? What do you dislike about it?
Day 19: What would your job be if you could have any job in the world?
Day 20: Are there things that can help you achieve your dream job? What are things that can make your current job easier?
Day 21: Write down a time each month, week, or even day that you will allow time for yourself. This is an action day too. Please don't just write it down in a journal and forget about it. This is important. Really set aside that time for yourself.
Day 22: What do you have the most trouble being generous with?
Day 23: Write down at least three things that you could do to be more generous. Whether it's giving money, time, pocessions, etc. Make a plan to take action to be more generous for others.
Day 24: Write a letter to your daughter, or a young girl in your life. Tell her what characteristics & qualities you hope she has one day. Think of the Proverbs 31 woman and her characteristics, qualities, and virtues.
Day 25: Describe a time when you did not want to give because of fear that you would not be able to replenish what you are giving away.
Day 26: What is your greatest fear? What could you fill your mind with to combat that fear?
Day 27: Describe a woman you know personally who is savvy in some way.
Day 28: Describe a time that someone's words had a significant (either positive or negative) impact upon your life. Now describe a time when your words had affected someone's life (either positive or negative)
Day 29: What do you think that "fear of the Lord" means?
Day 30: Is there an area in your life that has not yet been strongly affected by the fear of the Lord?
Day 31: This is the last day of Project 31. Please write down how you have changed yourself to be more of a Godly, Proverbs 31 woman.

Winter Ride...

On Sunday we took our first snow machine ride of the year! It was nice and refreshing to get outside on the tundra. It was incredibly cold out, but it was beautiful.

We went to two different places, this first place is near the airport. It's a beautiful spot to look out on the entire village of White Mountain.

Then we drove up to Sweetheart Mountain! Can you tell Bria is under her blanket?! This blanket is from Awma in Arknsas. It is SO warm and comfy that we love to wrap her up in it during the cold weather (she still has 2 layers of clothes plus her snowsuit, hat, and mittens!)...

Please excuse the dorky looking Mama though! I'm just as bundled up as Bria is :)

Have a great Wednesday. This is my Friday because I get to have a four day weekend with Mrs. B. It's going to be wonderful!

Halloween Extraveganza!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

We hope you enjoyed this fun Holiday as much as we did! I really do like Halloween because it's a day where kids can pick to dress up as their favorite character and pretend to have super powers, or be a beautiful princess and wear make-up with sparkles on it. It's a day where Mama's such as myself can dress up her daughter and as her husband to dress up as well! If you keep Halloween the way it should be, it is a fun, safe, and positive day.

Today was Bria's first Halloween, and boy did Mama have some fun!

I saved a box that we received from our Arkansas family (no, they are not from Arkansas but they do live there. This is a statement made just for my father-in-law!) They sent us a cute costume for Bria and a cute first Halloween card from our nieces and nephew. We also received some treats. Reese's and chocolate syrup for Clint and oh so delicious Jelly Bellies for myself! I dressed Bria up in her Cow costume and then I showed her the card! It was cute as she tried to look (and rip) it. Luckily for me, Clint was right there to help her (hence the reason she's looking up at her dad instead of the camera)! ...

Thank you Auntie Erica, Uncle Tony, Dinesha, Chance, Kaitlin, Alexis, Awma and Papa!

Then it was time to get ready for the Halloween Party!!

I didn't have a cowboy hat, so I made one out of newspaper, tape, and brown paint. Do you like it? I think it turned out great!

Then it was time for the party! Parades, pinatas, games, face painting, and candy. Lots and lots of candy!

Weekend Recap: Pumpkin Saturday

Last Saturday was so much fun. We had a theme going on! I made my delicious pumpkin spice latte made Bria her first ever pumpkin dish, pumpkin and apples and I was adventurous and made pumpkin pancakes!

Pumpkin Spice Latte:

adapted slightly from: The Kitchen

makes 1-2 servings (for me, it made 1!)

2 cups milk

2 Tbs. canned pumpkin or 1 tsp. of Torani Pumpkin Spice Syrup

2 Tbs. sugar

2 Tbs. vanilla extract

1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

1 tsp. nutmeg

1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice*

2 shots of espresso

Directions:

In a saucepan combine milk, pumpkin, and sugar. Cook on medium heat, stirring continuously until steaming. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract and spice, transfer to a blender or processor and process for 15 seconds or until foamy (or you can wait until you add the espresso and use the frothing gadget on your espresso machine). Add the espresso. Enjoy!

Optional:

Top with whipped cream and sprinkle pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or cinnamon on top!

*If you don't have pumpkin pie spice, you can substitute: 1/4 tsp. all spice, 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. ground ginger.

Pumpkin and Apples for the Babes:

2 Tbs. canned pumpkin (or fresh)
1/2 an apple

Directions:
Simply cut, peel, and core the apple. Chop it into chunks and put it in a small saucepan of boiling water. Turn heat on low and let apples cook for about 5-10 minutes. After apples are done, put the apples through the processor or grinder and mix with the pumpkin. Now feed and watch your baby swoon over this dish over and over again*!

Pumpkin, Pumpkin Pancakes!
adapted slightly from: Sassy Mama in LA

1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg
2 Tbs. vegetable oil
2 Tbs. vinegar
3 Tbs. brown sugar
2 1/2 cups of Honey Wheat Pancake Mix
2/ 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice**
1/2 tsp. salt

*If you don't have pumpkin pie spice, you can substitute: 1/4 tsp. all spice, 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. ground ginger.

Directions:
In a bowl, mix together milk, pumpkin, egg, oil and vinegar. In a separate bowl mix together the flour, brown sugar, pancake mix, salt. Stir the pumpkin mixture just enough to combine (not too much!) Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium to high heat. Use approx. 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake. Brown both sides. Serve hot with some pure maple syrup! Mmm....

Monster Madness!!

With Halloween just around the corner, I wanted to do a unit to celebrate Halloween or at least the fun activities that the kids are going to celebrate anyway. But, I didn't want to celebrate the same 'ole same 'ole ghosts, witches, goblins, pumpkins, etc. So, I looked on my new favorite site, Pinterest . I pinned so many different ideas and also bought a Monster Madness packet to use which had literacy and math games to do with the kids! You can find the packet here.

I'm going to put the monster in an open space in the room with this poem from Room Mom 101:

I am going to ask the kids to write down all their tattles on a piece of paper (now, obviously my kinder kids can't actually write words yet but they have learned all their sounds and we have been practicing writing the sounds they hear in the words) and then they will feed the tattle monster their tattle. I will no longer have to hear "teacher, teacher...so and so is doing this!" and "teacher, teacher...so and so just did that!" ... Ahh... I will finally have quietness amongst the tattles, hopefully!

Wii Tournament With Youth

We had Teen Night at our house last week and it was a total success! We had so much fun with the youth that decided to come. We decided to have Teen Night at our house and create a Wii tournament! We also were able to hand out a Teen Study Bible to each of our students that came- we had 9 students throughout the course of the night come over (courtesy of First Assembly of God Church in Ketchikan!).

We started the night off with guitar lessons, and watched a new (well, new to us. The dude is from the 80's with afro hair and tight jeans) guitar video that has lessons for beginners!

Clint then shared a short message. It was neat seeing the youth follow along and look up the verses in their bibles. I hope that they will continue to read them throughout the week and not just on Thursdays, but it's a good start!

Then it was time for the Tournament. The Wii tournament! We hooked the Wii to the big screen, turned off the lights, had treats, and played our little hearts out:

I loved the fact that kids where hanging out at the house. One of our guitar students loves, loves his new guitar and couldn't put it down that night. I'm so happy that they are so motivated to learn guitar!

At the end of the night, we "crowned" the champion. He sweated. He played hard. He beat everyone. He deserved the "plaque" that Clint had made!

Clint and I have been so pumped about the Youth and what God is doing in our lives. In their lives. In White Mountain! Something huge is happening here and we are excited and so thankful that we can be part of something magnificent. We will have these fun days with the youth quite often to try and get their attention and to be able to come together in fellowship and just hang out! Of course we love sharing the Good News and love seeing the kids get excited about things.

Currently, we are working on a skit to hopefully perform on one of our Sunday services. It will be amazing!

Kingdom Karate Fun Day!

This last Saturday we put on a Kingdom Karate Fun Day for the kids. We started the practice with a little warm-up and got straight into our activities. We played Marco/Polo, which we changed to Bushido/Kai, which turned out to be a lot of fun, and got a lot of laughs. We then set up an obstacle course for the kids, that included tunnels, mats for tumbling, kick shields, and our newest member B.O.B (Body Opponent Bag) which was donated by the ABKA. We had almost 20 students who attended our practice.

I also gave a message on doing what is right even when no one is looking. Because Christ is always watching us, and he see's everything we do. James 4:17 says, "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." All of our messages are designed to be simple and short to keep students attentive and engaged.

A Sweet, Sweet Surprise...

On Friday we received a care package from my sister Alexis. Now, if you have been following the blog you know how excited I get with care packages and how much it means to me when people send us simple things that we just can't get up here in the bush.

This is what we got: 2 bottles of my favorite drink. Ever! Blood Orange Organic Italian Soda, 2 big things of Reese's for Clint along with Torani Chocolate, Bria's B Linking Toys, Bananagrams and overalls (not pictured...They are for my Halloween costume!)...

It really is the smallest little things in life that make me so blessed!

Blueberries!

This weekend I had a bowl of Cheerios and Blueberries for breakfast. When Bria woke up and saw what I was eating, she wanted the same thing. So, I mixed up Cheerios and blueberries for her as well!She loves 'em!

I love the fact that our baby girl is a good eater. She will eat anything and everything we give her. I am so thankful we are able to get fresh fruit and vegetables from Full Circle Farm to me, it's so important that our baby girl has the best nutrition she can get, and sometimes that's hard up here.

When I was offered the chance to review the book: Why God Matters: How to Recognize Him in Daily Life (ISBN: 0982256531) by: Karina Lumbert Fabian & Deacon Steven Lumbert and published by Tribute Books, I was a little taken back and cautious about the amount of Catholicism within the book-it even has a crucifix on the cover. But I was ever so pleasantly surprised that this book was not just about the catholic authors background or experiences. It was truly about getting closer to God and understanding how to form a closer relationship with him.

As you may know, Clint and I have grown closer in our faith and we have been like sponges with everything and anything that can help us understand and

Each chapter has an excerpt or inspirational quote. It then goes into a real life experience from either Karina or Deacon Steven, usually a heart-felt deep experience that has changed their life and one that the reader can relate to. At the end of each chapter, there is a life application that challenges the reader. Some ask certain questions for you to answer about yourself. These are questions that open your heart into a deeper understanding of how your experiences or how relate to the chapter. Others are brief reminders of the love, commitment, and hope that God has for us.

Overall it's an inspirational book and one that will be kept on my bookshelf to let others read, or for me to read it again and again.

All about Bria...Again...

It's so much fun to have a blog when you have an amazing subject to talk about. Me? I absolutely love talking about my family and specifically, the famous little Miss B!

We had a late night last night as we had the 2 teams come in from Elim and Gambell for volleyball. The games didn't get over until 11: 30. One of our good friends here in White Mountain captured a precious picture of Bria actually kissing me!

And this morning when we woke up around 9:45 (only reason we woke up that late was because my mom called !) :) Bria wanted to talk to her Nana...This is what she was doing the entire time they talked on speaker phone:

See the top tooth? She cutting in 4 teeth at the same time! Our baby girl is getting so big!!

On another note: We had an amazing turn out for Karate! We are so excited that the kids are getting excited about this awesome, and healthy activity. I will be posting pictures a little bit later this weekend. They are adorable pictures!

I don't know how she does it. She is a sneaky little thing- and at nine months! Boy do we have our hands full!

We were in the house all day on Saturday. Not once did Bria or I leave. She was a sick, sick baby with a cough, cold sweats, and a runny nose that was like a constant drain. Poor baby.

However, at one point I remember being in the kitchen and then Clint yelling, "You gotta come see this! You're missing something special!!!!" I immediately ran to the living room (thankfully our apartment is small and I didn't have a long distance).

One thing about Bria that I absolutely love is that she is an awesome baby even if she isn't feeling good. She still laughs, talks and plays. However, she is even more cuddly with her Mama. And I have to say, that is my favorite part of it :) ...

Here is just a little shout out to my sister in blog land: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Chuck(it's totally a nick-name)!!! I love you Charley! I hope your day is full of hugs, loves, laughs, and embarrassment on your birthday. I was gonna put up a cutsie-patootsie picture of you, but I though I'd save it for when you get a little bit older :) ... Happy birthday BIG 1.4. !!

Here are 14 things (in no particular order- and there is more. I just thought I'd stop at 14 because, well, she's 14.) that I absolutely LOVE about my sister:

1.I love the way you put up with all of our teasing and joking, Because it's a lot. All of it is just for fun.

2. I love your luscious Haida lips! If anyone ever gives you grief, it's because they love them too.

3. I love the fact that, even at a young age you are an amazing Aunty to Bria.

4. I love the fact that you totally own the basketball court when you play! You're an awesome basketball star.

5. I love that you tease Clint with good comebacks that even HE has to step back and think.

6. I love the fact that you love hunting/fishing/camping. I hope you never lose your love for the outdoors. It's an amazing world and I want you to explore as much as you can!

7. I love the fact that you are SO sweet to me when no one is around and a "tough girl" in front of people....(oops, was I not supposed to tell?)

8. I love the fact that, no matter what you don't take anything from anyone and you tell people how it really is!

9. I love the fact that, even if you complain or if it's unreasonable, you do anything and everything for your sisters.

10. I love the fact that I remember when you took your first steps on the street corner waiting to enter Disney Land.

11. I love your little bubble-butt. Enough said.

12. I love the fact that you are so athletic and love to play different sports. I hope you keep it up through High School and College.

13. I love the fact that you spend the night as much as you can when we are home in Ketchikan. I hope that you also keep this up!

14. I love the fact that you are my baby sister and you are growing up to be such an amazing, beautiful and talented woman. I love the fact that no matter how far apart we are, or how long it is in between our conversations on Skype or the Phone it always starts where we left off. We will always be best friends, Charley. We will always be sisters. I will always be there for you. I will always love you!

Mama and Bria....

It's amazing what a parent will do to get their children to laugh... Children have an amazing ability to make adults act like complete idiots (and I say this as a kind remark) ... However, here is me, panting like a dog to get my daughter to laugh. You know what? It was all worth it and you can bet that I did it ten times after this video was recorded! Enjoy!

9 MONTHS!

Our baby is 9 months... Nine months... 9 whole months!!! I can't believe that in 3 short months she will be a year. This age, is by far, my favorite age so far. I know I have said that each month at some point, but I think because she is becoming aware of her surroundings, and is able to manipulate stuff it's become entertainment for Clint and I. Keep growing Miss. B!! Keep on growing, we love every minute of it!

Bria loves:

throwing her books off the bookshelf, finding cheerios in her walker seat, falling asleep with daddy, couscous/chicken/apple dinner, getting the batteries out of the remote, singing, when Mommy pants like a dog (i know, it's pretty awesome), opening and closing the cabinets fast.

Bria doesn't love:

waking up to find mommy out of the room, Clint's B.O.B. , when we take the remote away from her, when we lock the t.v. stand doors.

Fall Full of Flu Flurries: #Tips For Keeping My #Family #Flu Free!

It's my favorite time of year! It's time for fall fun and festivities, Halloween, holiday countdowns. But, with fall there is always that dreaded flu season that comes with it. Being a first time mommy I am always worried about Bria getting a cold, and with the climate we live it (northern Alaska weather) it is inevitable that she gets sick. I am also a Kindergarten teacher which means that Fall is full of flu flurries (did I mention that our letter of the day is "Ff"?

Anyway, now that fall is in full swing, here are some tips that I do to keep my family flu-free, or at least try my darnedest to keep us healthy this season:

1. Wipe down surfaces/toys regularly! This has become one of the most practiced tip in our home now that we have a daughter who is always putting things in her mouth, always chewing on the coffee table, and always playing with her toys! We wipe down surfaces about 2 times a day (when she's at her babysitters and we are at work.) and we clean her toys about every other day. This makes for a lot of work, but in the end it has payed off. For the surface cleaner, I usually use vinegar and water, but lately I have been using my Lysol wipes because they are quick and easy to use. With a baby, quick and easy is always nice!

I also use Lysol wipes in the classroom-for every surface, and I make it a fun way to clean the classroom. The kids love to help and they are learning that cleaning is important and fun! We clean the surfaces after playing and writing on them, and before lunch and at the end of the day.

2. Use Vitamins and/or Emergen-c: I love taking my vitamins and still give Bria her vitamins that we got from the hospital, her doctor says it's not necessary for Bria to take her vitamins since she is still nursing, but I still want to give her the best nutrients I possibly can. We also take Emergen-c regularly, not just when we are sick and I think it has had a positive impact on the amount of times we have gotten sick this year. I buy in bulk.

3. An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away: Everyone has heard this saying, right? Everyone has heard it because it's so true! They aren't just talking about apples here though! Keeping a healthy diet routine will definitely keep your immune system charged up. This is so important, especially during the holiday season. We use Full Circle Farm to get our fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. You have to remember, there are no stores here. None! So using FCF has been a life saver and has kept us eating healthy. We also eat three meals a day and don't skip our breakfast!

4. "Wash, wash, wash your hands, scrub the germs away": This is a song that I sing to my Kindergarteners and we sing it often. We wash our hands regularly: after we play outside, after we work with manipulatives, before and after lunch, after we sneeze/cough in our hands, after we wipe our nose etc. If Bria were old enough, she would be washing her hands to this tune as well. If we don't have soap and water available (and we often do being outdoors and such) I use hand sanitizer and make sure we have on in the baby bag, my purse or backpack, and the camera bag!

5. Snug as a bug in a.... Coat? : This tip means to bundle up! Especially with our White Mountain temperature dropping, it is important to bundle up as much as you can to keep warm. We bundle Bria up in about 2 layers underneath her snowsuit (yes, she is already using her snowsuit!). It is so important to keep your body warm. I usually dress in layers as well to keep my core body temperature where it is supposed to be. Bring that extra sweater/coat along if you have doubts! It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

There are so, so many ways to keep flu-free and I could keep on going with this list, but I wanted to highlight our favorites and most used tips that we have acquired, especially since the arrival of our daughter. Using these tips have definitely kept the germs away and we will continue these tips throughout the holiday season!

Weekend Recap!

Our weekend was quiet.

Clint was gone for a Cross Country trip in Anchorage and so it was just Bria and I at home by ourselves.

We don't like it when he's gone, but I'm so happy that he was able to get real food.

We had a couple of guests over to spend the night with us. It was fun and Bria had a blast having some friends over!

We watched a movie and had popcorn.

In the morning, I made them chocolate chip pancakes. This brought me down memory lane. My dad used to make us chocolate chip pancakes. In the shape of Mickey Mouse. Yeah, he's awesome. It was a great memory to re-live as I make our friends breakfast.

I can't wait til' Bria is old enough to have chocolate chip pancakes.

Bria is getting into everything! We've had to rearrange our house and make it as baby-proof as we can. Although, obviously there are some things that we still need to figure out i.e.: the bookcase. The weird thing is? she only destroys her books! hehe. I guess we can let her get away with that for a while. Until it becomes a reoccurring thing where Mommy has to clean up.

And, I made some soft pretzels for Clint when he came home from Anchorage (not that he needed any added goodies :) :

So, there's our weekend, just the way I like it (with the exception of Clint being gone-I don't like it when he's gone) food, and Bria lovin!

I love fall time. I love the colors of the leaves, dressing for the weather in comfy sweaters and scarves, the homemade pumpkin spice lattes, the excitement the kiddos have for Halloween, caramel apples, candy corn, fall crafts with leaves, pumpkins 'n apples, and the countdown to the holidays!

However, here in White Mountain Fall really only lasts about 2 weeks. Yeah, that's definitely not enough time to really enjoy my favorite season. Which is sadly disappointing. Thank goodness for my new favorite site: pinterest.

When Helping Hurts: Book Review

Without giving too much away about this book, I would liketo say that if you are interested in or are doing mission ministry then thisbook is well worth the read. As this book covers a wide berth of information,you will find that the author writes this book in the same format that youmight cover it in a college course. The information is formative, detailed withgreat examples, and ties it all together with biblical examples and greatinsight that will leave the reader really looking into their ministry.

Personal Thoughts: The part I enjoyed most about this book werethe overarching questions that were provided at the start of each chapter. Ienjoy comparing my personal thoughts and beliefs at the start of the book, andthen see how they are transformed as I become more knowledgeable or perhapsless ignorant of what is actually taking place. Some may call it the truth or aversion of the truth. I guess it really comes down to whose perspective you arelooking at. My perspective is tied to my personal truth in Jesus Christ and asI read through this book I felt the authors did a great job illustrating Jesus’love for each of us, and our ultimate purpose as we interact with each other ina friendly and loving way.

My main focus for reading this book was to get some insighton the effect of Mission trips and the lasting effect it has on the communitiesthey serve and each other. I would like to share a short story from the book:

Elephantand Mouse were best friends, One day Elephant said, “Mouse, let’s havea part!” Animals gathered from far and near. They ate. They drank. They sang.And they danced. And nobody celebrated more and danced harder than Elephant.After the party was over, Elephant exclaimed, “Mouse, did you ever goto a better party? What a blast!” But Mouse did not answer. “Mouse, where areyou?” Elephant called. He looked around for his friend, and then shrank backin horror. There at Elephant’s feel lay Mouse. His little body was ground intothe dirt. He had been smashed by the big feet of his exuberant friend, Elephant.“Sometimes, that is what it is like to do mission with you Americans,”the African storyteller commented. “It is like dancing with an Elephant.”

Personal Thoughts: After reading this story I really beganto think how often this is true. American Christian Mission teams can at timesbe a little too excited, with too much on there plate that the time spent inthe community becomes more about the project and the product than it does aboutthe people and the relationships. I truly believe there are times thatimmediate relief is required and needed, but too often teams look more at whatthey can report back to their church then on the “lasting” impact they willhave on that community. I do understand there is room for differences orfocuses for each mission group, I do belief that mission trips should alsofocus on building up lasting relationships with community leaders, whileproviding continual support after leaving. This can be done in many forms ofmonthly communication and can also be done with financial assistance if needed,and always prayer.

This book will raise those questions and provide wonderfulopportunity to reflect on your mission trip vision and your objectives. If youkeep an open mind, keep Christ as the center of your thoughts, I think everyonecan walk away from this book with a little more knowledge or understanding onhow we can assist each other without hurting.

When Bria was first born, we had trouble with our dog Sierra not leaving Bria alone. Sierra was crazy in the fact that she could not stop pacing around the house. When Bria was being held by anyone, Sierra would try to jump on that person. When Bria was in her playpen, Sierra would actually ram her head into the side of the pen to try and get at Bria. To say things have changed is probably an understatement. Bria and Sierra have become best of friends now. They sleep on each other, Bria gives Sierra Cheerios....And Sierra even lets Bria play in her dog dish:

It has been beautiful out! With sunny blue skies and most importantly, no bugs (!) we have been racing to get outdoors! We have been getting out more and more now that we have our nifty Kelty Backpack from the inlaws (thanks guys!).

When people say Alaska's state bird is the mosquito, they aren't kidding! They have been huge this year, and I'm tired of getting bitten. No. I'm tired of getting welts when I get bit by a mosquito.

Sunday we were able to go on another walk. We sat and had a fire and just chit-chatted, while Bria played with Sierra and slept in her backpack!

If you have been following the blog, or know our family, you know then that we are growing in our faith and our relationship with God. It has been an amazing year and a wonderful adventure.There have been some occurrences that can only be explained as the work of the Lord. I don't believe in coincidences. I believe that God has opened the doors to all sorts of possibilities for my husband and I in our quest for missions. I believe that God has placed a fire in our hearts, and now that fire is burning and growing into a bon fire! Clint and I are currently working on our missionary blog: Alaska Kingdom Karate & Missions where we will be posting everything that has to do with our ministry up here in White Mountain, AK (*please keep in mind that this site is under construction*)

We are working along side the Pastor and his wife in putting together a Youth group for White Mountain. We started holding youth group meetings a couple of weeks ago and are in full swing. We have had roughly about 6 students come at various times. If you missed my first post about the Youth Group, you can read about the story of the guitars here. Trust me. It's an amazing story!

Last night we had 1 more student show up for guitars!

Singing is such a fun thing to do. Especially during worship:

We have been having a great time. We have been talking about Love the past couple of weeks, which in my opinion is the largest, most important topic to talk about!

Bria Stands!!!

We received yet another box for Ms. Bria. I have to tell you, getting boxes in the mail is truly a high light of our days here in rural Alaska! But, the boxes have continuously been for Bria. That's okay. I love that Bria is loved not only by our family, but by our friends as well!

Yesterday, we received a box from my mom (thanks Mom!) and inside was a cute outfit for Bria from her Aunt Jamie. I put it on her right away. When I asked Clint to hold her up so I can take a picture, this is what she did:

As I mentioned yesterday, we love cloth diapers. LOVE. When I started researching on how to get started by using cloth diapers I was a little overwhelmed with all of the "must haves" to start diapering. Everything from the diapers to the wet bags, detergent, hang dry racks, covers, etc. I decided to go the minimal route and just by the cloth diapers. So far, I haven't had the need to buy anything else other than the diapers themselves. Would I love to buy more stuff just for my cloth diapering obsession? Of course! But that would defeat my purpose of going "minimal"!

But if you want the stuff (and I'm sure some of it can make life easier) by all means, go for it. Here is a list of links that I have fell in love with in ordering the accessories for cloth diapering:

Now, here is the routine that has worked well for me.

To wash diapers: I use yellow dish gloves to protect my hands (I have very very sensitive skin)

1)wearing my yellow dish gloves I take the liner's out of the shell or cover (both soiled and poopy diapers!) and put both in the washer. I then put 1Tbs. of my homemade laundry detergent in the wash and set the cycle on cold/gentle wash. After that cycle is done, I put another Tbs. of my laundry detergent in and set the wash cycle on hot/gentle. After the second wash, I do another hot rinse.

2)I then hang-dry my diapers on our shower curtain rod overnight. This may or may take just overnight or a day 1/2.

3)After they are dry I assemble them. I put the liners in the pocket and stack them. Bria automatically gets into the diapers and "helps" too!

4) For soiled diapers: All I do is take the diaper off and place the soiled diaper in a garbage pail (that is lined with a bag). For poopy diapers, I simply shake the poopy diaper in the toilet (using my yellow gloves) and then put it in the garbage bag. **I also make sure I close the garbage bag so that the diapers don't dry out.

There are tons and tons of different ways to do cloth diapers (some probably a lot better than the way I do it) but this has worked for me.

Before Bria was born Clint and I made a list of things that she could and could not have/use/eat/play with etc. One of the biggest things (besides all organic food, clothing, and toys) we didn't want her to use a pacifier. That lasted about a week after she was born because we were flying back home and were worried about Bria's ears popping. Since then, she has loved her pacifiers. She now can't fall asleep without one. When she's playing with her toys, she often holds on to her pacifier with one hand, while trying to manipulate her toys with the other. I have counted at least 12 pacifiers around the house, in our school bags, and the babysitters. We have come to the conclusion that Bria absolutely loves her pacifiers and when we don't have on on hand, its horrible.

The Adventures of Cloth Diapering: part 2

As most of you know, we are a cloth diapering family. We have been using cloth diapers since Bria was about 4 weeks old. The only reason why we didn't start earlier is she was too small (5lbs. 12oz) for the diapers to work properly (there was leakage down the side of her leg). Since the beginning we have been nothing but satisfied with how well Bria and I are handling the cloth diapers. She has had only 2 minor rashes-ones that just needed a little bit more baby powder! EVER.

If you want to read my first post about cloth diapers, you can check that out here. I talk about which diapers I'm going to use, the different kinds of diapers out there, and all the research that has led me to use cloth in the first place.

After about 7 months of cloth diapering, and three different brands of diapers, here is what we found out.

Overall winner:Kawaii Baby

pluses: Diapers are easy to change. I love the snap button and how you can adjust sizes to your liking. They dry quickly when hang drying. They have all sorts of very cute patterns and colors The liners are made of soft micro fleece and they grow with your baby! One of the best parts? The prices are very reasonable ranging from $5.99 - 14.99 each. This is important as there are so many overpriced cloth diapers out there.

minuses: It is a little big and bulky (this may be just for the Goodnight Heavy wetter diapers). If you don't do an extra rinse for the laundry, they do tend to leak.

Overall: We have 12 Kawaii Baby diapers in our rotation of about 17. These are by far, my favorite of all. Although we have both the velcro and button diapers, I prefer the button and they hold the diaper together better. I will be ordering more Kawaii baby diapers as soon as they get more diapers for their bamboo, all natural diaper line! So excited! Head on over to Kawaii Baby to order your diapers! Second Place: BumGenius

pluses: They are velcro, so they are easier to snap on. The diaper liners are easy to adjust for size with buttons on the inserts. They come in cute colors. They are very easy to use.

minuses: The velcro attracts lent and hair from the dryer, making the appearance look yucky. Also, the velcro seam is coming undone and is hart to take apart sometimes. Had many leaks due to improper fit of the insert.

Overall: The BumGenius cloth diapers are good diapers, but they tend to leak they are easy to use and are less bulky than the Kawaii Diapers, but I still prefer the Kawaii diapers because of the no leakage aspect. I can't get over the quick deterioration of the velcro :(

Third Place: Flip

pluses: You can change the inner liner and keep the outer shell for multiple diaper changes. Grows as your child grows. They have disposable inserts that you can buy (I haven't tried these yet, but hope to some day).

minuses: It is a pain in the butt (pun intended) to put this on a little ones behind. With the liner not secure in a 'pocket' it's time consuming and hard to put on a wiggly baby. When I try to put this on Bria (and now it's worse that she's mobile) she kicks her legs around and takes the liner out of the shell. It also leaks if I don't have the liner completely fitted to the outershell.

Overall: These are great diapers to use when you don't have time for the laundry because you can use the outer shell multiple times. I however, will not buy anymore Flip diapers as I already have 2 and that's enough.

More about our cloth experiences: It's much easier than I imagined. When I first started to research cloth diapering, it was a little daunting and intimidating, but once I bought the diapers and made the commitment it has become a wonderful experience. I was so surprised at how easy it was, and once I got a system down, I couldn't imagine not using cloth diapers. Not only am I happy that we are saving money, but we are doing our part in keeping unnecessary waste out of our landfills, which, duh, is a huge part in trying to protect our planet! I would still like to get a couple more diapers (as I mentioned above, I'm going to buy from Kawaii Baby) to lessen the laundry load each week. Washing has been an easy process as well. We are lucky enough to have a child that only poops about every 2-3 days (it's normal for breastfed babies). Please, if you are thinking about cloth diapers, make the switch. It's not only cheap, but it's healthier for your baby and the environment. I'm also glad that I have enough diapers to use with the next child we have!
